Meta Launches Muse, a Consumer Agent That Spends on Your Behalf
Meta launched Muse, a consumer AI agent that runs inside its own isolated virtual machine, communicates with apps through screens, and can spend money on your behalf — paying with one-time card numbers via Stripe's Link, under approval for each action.
It marks the first mainstream consumer agent designed to operate across apps rather than inside a single product, and it pushes the questions everyone is asking this week: who is accountable for an agent's actions, and how do you stop a system that is designed to act in the real world?
The same week, an Anthropic researcher resigned publicly warning that the labs are racing toward self-improving systems "with no plan to control them." The agents are here; the guardrails are still being written.
